Last week, as part of the inaugural New York Super Week, the prestigious Theater at Madison Square Garden was host to the third event in the ESL One series: ESL One New York 2014. With 5,000 attendees and over 2 million people tuning in to watch the world’s top eight Dota 2 teams battling in one of the world’s most famous venues, this competition marks the largest esports event held on the East Coast.

The final game was played between Evil Geniuses, hometown favorite and the first runner up from ESL One Frankfurt 2014, and Vici Gaming, who finished second at The International 4. The latter was victorious, taking home the trophy and a lion’s share of the over $130,000 prize pool.

We saw a great esports event happening last week, with thousands of fans watching exciting Dota 2 in the heart of New York and millions following it online. There is no doubt that esports now has its place in these kind of venues.” – said Ulrich Schulze, Managing Director Pro Gaming at ESL.
